About the role

Act as a technical expert for the engineering team, providing leadership and direction. Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll-out a one way once approach through the team ensuring the standards and behaviours are met and consistently delivered for the benefit of the business and our customers. Work closely with other senior engineers to create a consistent approach.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive performance against set targets and objectives to achieve optimum productivity
  • Ensure all staff work within their engineering licence authorisation limits and that these are regularly updated
  • Assisting with any issue’s employees may have or complaints that arise.
  • Oversee desktop and physical inspection production of detailed technical reports, including site visits with the appropriate members of the management team, to ensure the best cost engineered solution is produced.
  • Lead and inspire the engineering team, overseeing the resource plan, recruitment, training and development, performance management and absence.
  • Manage and conduct structured, regular audits across the engineering function, ensuring processes are followed and specific customer rates and SLAs are adhered to.
  • Review decision making, valuations and salvage categories where appropriate.
  • Build strong relationships with AGL’s customers, acting as a key point of contact for engineering and technical issues.
  • Proactively roll-out new processes and developments to customers.
  • Keep abreast of the latest industry standards and compliance requirements ensuring AGL’s engineering function operates with an appropriate legal framework. Ensure all changes and new requirements are rolled-out in a timely fashion to the team with appropriate delivery plans in place.
  • Identify areas for technological advancement in line with expected engineering standards.
  • Be an advocate of continuous improvement, working closely with the leadership team to share best practice and drive process improvement.
  • Identify new and innovative ways of optimising productivity and improving quality.
  • Ensure that all company policies and procedures are followed
  • Any other tasks as deemed necessary

Skills and experience

  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and coaching engineering or technical experts
  • Engineering background and body shop experience
  • Experience of using Audatex and the Case Management System
  • The ability to work as part of a leadership team and contribute to the future direction of the engineering function
